The competition was intense with 20 competitors, but when all words were spelled correctly, there was only one student that was perfect. Niquole Caringi, the champion of our local Spelling Bee continued on to compete in the Lapeer County Spelling Bee on March 18, 2010 along with the runner-up, Sierra Duty and the third place finisher, Jaelin Pratt. ALL THREE 7th GRADE STUDENTS DID WELL with Niquole finishing in fifth place among all County Competitors. |
Spirit Week a Success at NBMS The Student Council put together a fantastic plan for the Spirit Week in honor of Snowcoming at the high school. Each day was competitive with special dress days and activities during lunch times. Students also had the opportunity to help raise money for Haiti as they held a Hat Day where students paid $1.00 to wear their hat on this special day and we also held a Penny War. Mrs. Parson's SeminAR class won the Penny Wars, but Haiti won bigger with our student body collecting over $1,000. A HUGE thanks goes out to all students that participated in this exciting week. |
Career Fair Date #1 We want to thank our nearly 30 guests that came in to discuss their careers with our students!! North Branch Middle School has put emphasis on three career pathways during the 2009-10 school year and we have now pulled the three trimesters together for our students by inviting guest speakers in to discuss their careers. Career Fair date #1 was on May 6th and the 7th grade students along with twenty-five 8th grade students were able to listen to nearly 30 guest speakers discuss their careers. Career Fair #2 will be held on May 13th where the guests will speak to all of the 8th graders, plus the 28 students that will not be attending the 7th grade trip to Grand Rapids. |
Volunteers Wanted Daily If you are interested in volunteering at the Middle School on a particular day every week, please see Mrs. Cranick during Parent Teacher Conferences. We already have four individuals helping out weekly, but we would love to have you if you can give 2-5 hours one or two days of the week on a consistent basis. Teachers could use assistance in the classrooms with putting up bulletin boards, making copies, reading to students, assisting groups or individuals with projects, helping students study or prepare for tests/quizzes, or setting up for classroom activities. Our Media Center Parapro could use help with bulletin boards in the Library, checking books in or re-shelving of books, laminating, helping get book fine information out to students, or helping students locate books. The Office staff could use assistance with running materials to students, answering phones and redirecting them, making copies, being a presence in the hallway during class exchanges, and assisting with mailings at different times of the year. If you feel you have the strengths/time to assist with any of these activities and want to volunteer, please contact Mrs. Cranick. |
![]() CSI - Cyber Safety Initiative An assembly put on through the Attorney General's Office We just want to remind families to stay vigilant, as we are here at North Branch Middle School, when it comes to using the internet. Our students need to stay safe while on the internet and they need to be continually reminded of the internet predators. The assembly gave examples of things that could happen to anyone while searching the web. Every student was given a contract to sign (attached below) between parents and student. This contract did not need to be returned to school, but instead will help to serve as a reminder of the safety that should be observed everytime anyone is on the internet. Also there is a parent "warning signs" paper attached for you to review. Click here to visit the CSI website for more resources and information about internet safety. |
