Full STEAM Ahead!

STEM, which encompasses Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics, along with STEAM, which integrates the Arts, is crucial for fostering innovation and enhancing creative problem-solving. With STEM jobs projected to grow significantly by 2030, especially in computing and engineering, there is an urgent need to inspire students to pursue these fields. To address this, the district is advancing its "full STEAM ahead" initiative by continuing to enhance SmartLabs at North Branch Elementary and Ruth Fox Middle School in the 2024-25 school year. These labs will provide students with hands-on experiences using technologies such as 3D printers for prototyping, laser engravers for design, CNC milling machines for manufacturing, and software tools like Adobe Photoshop and Stop Motion. This student-led, project-based learning approach will encourage ownership of learning, real-world applications, and the early development of a STEAM identity, while also connecting students with role models in the field.

Introducing Blocksi to Parents: A New Tool to Enhance Online Safety

We are excited to introduce Blocksi, a powerful tool for parents to ensure a safer online experience for their child on school-issued devices. Blocksi is a web filtering and monitoring solution that provides parents with control and visibility over their child’s internet usage at home.

Through the Parent Dashboard and a mobile app, you can manage screen time, enforce stricter policies by blocking specific websites, and view your child's web history. The system also detects and sends alerts for concerning content like cyberbullying or self-harm, helping you protect your child’s well-being.

To get started, simply visit parent.blocksi.net and create an account using your personal email and your student’s school-provided email. We believe Blocksi will be a valuable resource in helping us partner with you to create a safer digital world for our students.

Important Chromebook Safety Information

A dangerous social media trend involving inserting metal into Chromebook ports is occurring in schools, causing damage and posing fire/burn risks. Students caught doing this will face repair/replacement costs and suspension. Causing a fire has more severe consequences. Parents are urged to discuss these risks with their children and encourage responsible technology use.
